FAQ
-
What do I need to get married?
It all depends on the type of ceremony you are interested in. In the simplest style—all we need are two witnesses and a marriage licence!
-
When can I get a marriage licence?
You can get a marriage licence within the 3 months leading up to your wedding (for example for a September 1st wedding, you could get it anytime after June 1st). More info on the process can be found here.
-
How much are your services?
I have a range of fees from $250 - $525 depending on a few factors. Let’s chat to see what service suits you and your partner.
-
Will you marry me & my same-sex partner?
(can’t believe this is still a FAQ…) LOVE IS LOVE! I am so happy to marry anyone who is legal to be married in Alberta, and will ensure we use the right language for you and your partner.
-
Can you do a religious ceremony?
As a Government of Alberta appointed marriage commissioner I cannot perform a religious ceremony however there are ways we can incorporate religious and cultural elements (readings, traditions like unity candles, handfasting, and more!).
-
Can we meet with you then decide if we want to book you?
Absolutely! Book a call here and then you can see if we are the right fit. No hard feelings, I want to ensure I am what you are looking for.
-
Can you provide a location for us to get married?
While I don’t have an office or venue to offer you, I do have ideas of both free & rentable locations. I also often visit couples’ homes for intimate ceremonies.
-
How long have you been an officiant?
I was appointed in 2018 as an Alberta marriage commissioner and am currently in my second 5-year term. I feel so grateful to have what I think is the coolest gig in the world.
-
What happens if you get sick?
This very rarely happens but when it does, we have a wonderful community of marriage commissioners that support each other and can fill in when emergencies arise.
